AIDS counseling and testing
OIC Racine offers free and discreet HIV/ AIDS antibody testing. The OraSure
test is a convenient oral screening to test for HIV infection. The test
uses an oral pad placed between the cheek and gum for three minutes. Test
results are returned from the Wisconsin State Lab within two weeks.
Confidential vs. Anonymous HIV Testing
There are two ways to administer an HIV test; "Confidential"
and "Anonymous".
The "confidential test" records your name with the test result.
Your record will be kept secret from everyone except medical personnel or
the state health department.
With the "anonymous test", you are the only one who knows the
test results. Results are associated with and requested by number.
Are you at risk?
Have you shared needles or syringes to inject drugs or steroids?
If you are a male, have you had unprotected sex with other males?
Have you had unprotected sex with someone who you know or suspect
was infected with HIV?
Have you had a sexually transmitted disease (STD)?
Have you received a blood transfusion or clotting factor between 1978
and 1985?
Have you had unprotected sex with someone who would answer yes to
any of the above questions?
