About Upward Bound
The Upward Bound Program is a federally funded TRIO program that is focused on the academic preparation and motivation of qualified ninth through twelfth grade students who have the potential to succeed in high school and further their education at the post-secondary level.
The staff of the Upward Bound Program is comprised of counselors, tutors and administrators who are sensitive to the needs of the students. The Upward Bound Program offers the following programs and services; Sullivan Enrichment Series, Sullivan Scholars, After-School Study Center and student leadership board positions.
The Sullivan Scholars are students who have earned a 3.0 GPA or higher, and have participated in the After School Study Centers, Saturday Colleges, College Tours, and the Summer Enrichment Program therefore qualifying them to special recognition and privileges. As a Sullivan Scholar you are OIC's premier VIPs entitling you to first hand information, opportunities, and incentives associated with your outstanding achievement in the classroom.
Sullivan Enrichment Series (SES)
Named after the late Reverend Dr. Leon H. Sullivan who founded the very first Opportunities Industrialization center in Philadelphia in 1964. SES is a program that provides students with access to people, resources and information to enrich their daily lives and enhance their journey to Success throughout their time in High School and while participating in the Upward Bound Program. SES offers a hands on lecture activity series that prepares students to function in daily life and become prepared for college and beyond.
